Why I didn’t go to AREC

I didn’t go to AREC on the weekend.

And from looking at social media, I must be the only person in the industry who didn’t.

I tell you, I’ve had some serious FOMO looking at the photos and videos being posted from AREC.

But I wanted to tell you why I didn’t go.

Because this year is the year of “no” for me.

Maybe you’ve heard of the book The Year of Yes, but this year is the opposite for me.

I know, it sounds negative, but hear me out.

This year, I decided that I had some very specific goals to achieve (some personal and some professional), and I knew that in order to achieve those goals, I’d have to say no to everything else.

And it’s been haaaaaaaard!  So hard.

I’m a people pleaser, and I get FOMO so easily (especially with social media).

So, making the decision to say no to everything else, has been a challenge.

And that’s why I didn’t go to AREC.  It was one of the (very difficult) things to say no to.

I couldn’t go to AREC and achieve my goals for the year.

That’s why I said no.

Now if you have big goals for this year, you might have to say no at times too.

So I want to ask you, what do you need to say no to?

If you want to share it with me, comment below and let me know (I read every comment).

If you don’t want to share it, that’s cool too.

But please consider saying no when you need to.

It’s hard, but it’s worth it too.
